Manu Chao is a French-born singer and political activist of Spanish origin. Especially well-known outside of the U.S., he sings mainly in Spanish, French and English and occasionally in a number of other languages. With his father being a writer-journalist, Manu grew up surrounded by many artists and intellectuals. Such an environment surely influenced the artist in many ways. Manu’s music is an eclectic blend of music from all over the world with lyrics about love, living in ghettos, immigration, and often carry a left-wing message. A self-taught musician, Chao has a tendency to reuse music or lyrics from previous songs to form new songs to reflect his shifting moods accordingly.
