Biting the Big Apple: T-6 days

Hope you Cali folks have been enjoying the beautiful warm weather these past few days! Just wanted to inform everyone that Baked. will be on vacay from Wednesday March 25th to Tuesday March 31. I’m hittin’ the Big delicious Apple to visit a monkey, “research” good eats, and run amuck. My sincerest apologies if this creates any complications with orders!

Support LOVE not H8: Repeal Prop 8!

Last week, California’s Supreme Court weighed whether voters’ decision to ban same-sex marriage was a denial of fundamental rights and has 90 days to make a decision. The gay marriage ban that passed last November strips away inalienable rights from many Americans and their families, and threatens  the validity of at least 18,000 marriages conducted before the ban was passed.

This Sunday, March 15, a Courage Campaign “County Equality Team” kickoff meeting is being organized by grassroots volunteers in 26 locations all over the state. Baked. will be attending the team event in the County of Santa Clara and will also be bringing free delicious desserts!

Please help us in the movement to fight for equality. To attend a kickoff event near you, check out the map. With increasing dialogue over gay rights, your support will help make a difference in creating a more just and equal society for all. When a majority decides to take away the civil rights of a minority, it’s discrimination. Support LOVE not H8 and Repeal Prop 8!

Local, Organic Fruits “To You”

Excited! Just received the first shipment from Farm Fresh To You, a service that delivers different packages of produce (just fruit, just vegetables, mostly fruit, mostly vegetables, etc.).  Everything local & sustainable + everything organic + fair prices = sweet deal 🙂 Plans are flexible and there are no contracts; you choose the frequency of your deliveries (weekly, biweekly, and so on). Here’s what was delivered for this week’s “Mostly Fruit” package:

Farm Fresh To You - Mostly Fruitpink lady apples

braeburn apples

blood oranges

red d’anjou pears

bosc pears

The minute I opened it, I ate a pinky lady – crispy and delicious! Some apples had some bruises on them, but it doesn’t make much of a difference in terms of taste and quality. The box will probably last a good 1.5 weeks for an average family of 4 (refrigeration recommended for some fruits). Should you decide to sign up for the service, please let them know I referred you by giving them my customer ID #70799 😉 You won’t regret it!

ICC Issues Arrest Warrant for Sudan President

As a long time supporter of Save Darfur, working to expose and fight the genocide in the Darfur region in Sudan, Baked. would like to take the opportunity, at this critical moment, to gather as many petitions / donations from you to move us towards the end of the crisis.

On Wednesday, the International Criminal Court (ICC) accused Mr Bashir of responsibility for a campaign of extermination, rape and pillage during the Darfur conflict.

He is also accused of five crimes against humanity counts: murder; extermination; forcible transfer; torture and rape.

The UN estimates that 300,000 people have died and 2.7 million displaced in the 6-year conflict in Darfur, since black African rebels took up arms against the Arab-dominated regime demanding a greater share of resources and power.

You can check out the full article on BBC here.

A delusional leader who denies such heinous crimes against his own people surely must be stopped. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and spread the word!

*For anyone who has written proof of signing the petition or donating, Baked. will offer free cookies!
